A domain name is a people-friendly address used on the internet for websites or email.
Every site on the internet and every computer, server and network in the world has an IP address. This is a unique identifying string of numbers separated by periods (eg. 123.45.67.890) and is used to locate specific information on the internet. Rather than having to remember these long IP addresses, we use domain names which are linked to the corresponding IP addresses and lead us to the desired information.
